Dear Nebraskans for Peace,

The challenges facing our nation continue to escalate. The Trump administration’s actions have harmed communities across the country…..

From a $1 trillion defense budget paired with deep cuts to healthcare and nutrition programs…
…to aggressive and unlawful detentions by ICE agents, and illegal military actions, including the shocking reports of boats being blown up in the Caribbean…
…to continued U.S. funding of the Israeli government, enabling a conflict that has taken the lives of more than 70,000 Palestinians, even as massive corruption within the Israeli government comes to light—sound familiar?…
…to massive cuts in federal funding that have eliminated hundreds of public-service jobs…
…to the record-long government shutdown, which left thousands of federal workers without paychecks and millions of Americans struggling to meet basic needs like food, housing, and healthcare…
We know people are scared and struggling. These harms are not abstract. They are happening in our neighborhoods, to our friends, our families, and our communities. And they demand an immediate, powerful response.
That is why we NEED you!
Despite these dark times, the last election cycle showed us something undeniable: when we organize, WE WIN. New York City elected its first millennial, democratic socialist mayor. Virginia elected its first woman governor. And Prop 50 passed in California allowing the state to redistrict before the midterm elections. Across the country, voters rejected fear and division and embraced a vision of justice, democracy, and compassion.
And right here in Nebraska, we celebrated the 55th Anniversary of Nebraskans for Peace, a milestone no other organization can claim. We are the nation’s oldest statewide Peace and Justice organization, and for over half a century we have stood up, spoken out, and organized for what is right not what is popular.
No one has been here speaking out as long as us. No one has been here fighting for peace, justice, and human dignity through every political storm, every crisis, every threat to our democracy. And we are still here — because people like you have kept this movement alive.
These victories give us hope but hope alone is not enough. We must act, and we must act now.
Nebraskans for Peace depends on supporters like you to confront injustice, mobilize communities, and protect the vulnerable. Your contribution today will directly fuel our work—organizing, educating, and standing up against authoritarianism in every form.
-
We organize against the ICE detention center in McCook, standing with immigrant families and demanding humane treatment, transparency, and accountability.
-
We defend the U.S. Constitution at every level — local, state, and national — pushing back against government overreach, authoritarianism, and attacks on civil liberties.
-
We work to build community support and awareness for Roots of Justice: A History of Race and Racism in Nebraska — a book that began as a collaborative project between Nebraskans for Peace and the Lincoln branch of the NAACP, and continues to spark essential conversations across our state.
-
We advocate for policies that protect our natural world and confront the climate crisis, including championing the Green Amendment for Nebraska, which would enshrine our right to clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment.
-
We support the Youth Climate Summit, a yearly gathering that brings young people from across the state together to learn, collaborate, and create real climate solutions. This summit empowers the next generation with the knowledge, tools, and community they need to build a livable future.
-
We continue to hold our utilities accountable to the goals and promises they have made to our communities. OPPD committed to stop burning coal in North Omaha and we will continue our work to hold them to the promise to stop poisoning Nebraskans.
-
We publish the Nebraska Report, delivering critical coverage and political analysis too often ignored by mainstream media — ensuring that truth, transparency, and grassroots voices remain at the forefront.
